KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) sent crews to South Carolina as Hurricane Debby approached the southeast.

On Sunday, KFD shared images showing their teams dealing with rising water levels. The storm brought heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding to parts of coastal Georgia and South Carolina as it moved east. KFD was prepared to help wherever needed.

“KFD’s Swift Water Team will leave at 3:30 PM today from the Public Safety Complex for a possible 10-day mission,” the department announced before their departure.

KFD also mentioned that a specialized task force of 12 firefighters, along with emergency vehicles and essential supplies, was headed to South Carolina.

“We are committed to helping our neighbors in South Carolina during this critical time,” said Chief Stan Sharp. “Our firefighters are trained for high-risk situations, and we will do everything we can to support local emergency services and communities affected by Hurricane Debby.”
