SALT LAKE CITY — As summer ends and school begins, parents often share photos of their children online. However, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) urges parents to be cautious about what they post.

When sharing back-to-school photos, avoid including personal details like your child’s name, age, school, or teacher. Also, ensure that the background of the photo doesn’t reveal your child’s location.

Many back-to-school photos feature boards with information like a child’s name, height, or school uniform. The BBB warns that scammers or predators could misuse this information for identity theft or to gain your child’s trust.

To protect your child, choose generic backgrounds for photos that don’t show house numbers, street signs, or school names. Additionally, check your social media privacy settings and avoid accepting friend requests from strangers.
